We look forward to your application. ;What will you do as a Legal Counsel?Provide advice and support on a broad range of legal matters, including legal risk mitigation, non-profit governance, non-profit fundraising, wills, trusts and estates, technology, data privacy, intellectual propertyDraft and negotiate contractsDevelop and maintain internal templates, policies and practices that align with current compliance and regulatory landscapesMonitor organizational policies and practices for compliance with laws, rules, regulations and policiesReview, draft, and revise a range of legal documents, including policies, memos, and resolutionsWork cross-functionally with staff at all levels of the organization on relevant legal mattersFamiliarize yourself with JDC’s global mission and workOther related duties as assigned ;What qualifications are required to be our Legal Counsel?2+ years of relevant legal experience in-house and/or at a law firmJ.D. degree (or foreign equivalent) from an accredited law school and active membership in at least one State Bar with the ability to obtain New York In-House Counsel statusStrong legal risk analysis skillsStrong drafting and negotiation skillsExcellent verbal and written communication skills with a range of audiencesOrganizational and detail orientation skills, and ability to manage and prioritize competing deadlinesStrong problem-solving and critical thinking skillsInterpersonal skills and ability to gain the confidence of colleaguesAbility to maintain confidentiality and handle high-stakes matters with composureAbility to find creative solutions and bring a business partner/thought partner approach to working with colleaguesAbility to work both on one's own and on a teamAll-hands-on-deck approach, willingness to take on whatever is neededWelcomes constructive feedback and takes ownership for mistakesAbility to read words and numbersAbility to operate a computer keyboard and other office equipmentAbility to communicate in person, over the telephone, and over videoconferencing platforms ;Additional Preferred Skills and Competencies:Experience advising exempt organizations and knowledge of non-profit governance and non-profit fundraisingExperience working with senior leaders and clientsKnowledge of data privacy, experience with GDPR and U.S. state data privacy lawsKnowledge of trusts and estatesKnowledge of technology and intellectual propertyQuantitative skills or numerical abilityKnowledge of Israeli or other international legal environmentsProficiency in Hebrew or RussianPassion for humanitarian work and/or global Jewish service ;Additional DetailsEmployment Type: Full-TimeHours: 35 hours/week, 8:45 AM – 4:45PMLocation: New York, NY; 2 days/week on-site, up to 3 days/week work from homeReports to: Legal DirectorJob Function/Department: LegalOther: Occasional domestic and international travel ;What are the compensation and benefits for the Legal Counsel?This is a full-time position paid semi-monthly at a salary of $125,000-$140,000 per year; in determining where a candidate falls in that range JDC considers several factors, including skills and experience, internal equity, and cost of living in location of work.
