Illinois State Toll Highway Authority

The Illinois State Toll Highway Authority (ISTHA) is trying to give Illinois drivers a little relief from congestion, making their morning and afternoon commutes easier to swallow. The department maintains and operates about 275 miles of interstate tollways in 12 Northern Illinois counties. ISTHA is mid-way through its 10-year, $6.3 billion Congestion-Relief Program, which is conducting major improvements, including rebuilding, widening, and extending tollway segments; converting toll plazas to provide non-stop toll collection for I-PASS users; opening additional tollway oases; and adding electronic over-the-road signs to improve communication with tollway users.
